Broward County
Broward is the other High-Velocity Hurricane Zone county. Along with Miami-Dade it is held to the strictest wind provisions in the Florida Building Code, so rooftop and ground-mounted equipment needs approved anchoring and the products themselves generally need a Miami-Dade NOA or a Florida Product Approval valid for HVHZ use.
Broward also administers the code through its own Board of Rules and Appeals, which sits above the individual city building departments. In practice that means a change-out in Fort Lauderdale and one in Coral Springs are held to the same countywide interpretation, even though the permit is pulled locally.
A mechanical permit is normally required for an equipment change-out and the work is inspected before it closes out. Florida requires a licensed contractor for that work — we are licensed, certified, and insured in the State of Florida and employ EPA certified technicians. On the barrier island and along the Intracoastal, salt air shortens condenser life, so coated coils are worth specifying.
