It is still hurricane country: much of the Gulf coast falls inside a wind-borne debris region under the Florida Building Code, so equipment anchoring and product approval still matter — the specific requirement depends on the wind speed mapped to your address.
Permitting is handled by the local jurisdiction rather than one regional authority, so a change-out in Tampa goes through the City of Tampa, one in St. Petersburg through the city, and unincorporated work through Hillsborough, Pinellas or Pasco County. A mechanical permit is normally required for an equipment change-out, and the work is inspected before it closes out.
Florida requires a licensed contractor for that work — we are licensed, certified, and insured in the State of Florida and employ EPA certified technicians. Near the Gulf and the bay, salt air shortens condenser life, so coated coils are worth specifying on waterfront properties.
